Zur Quadriennale 2014 hat das imai die Ausstellung The Invisible Force Behind. Materialität in der Medienkunst eröffnet. Die Ausstellung umkreist das heutige Phänomen des zunehmenden Verlusts von körperhafter Substanz durch Digitalisierung und des gleichzeitig ansteigenden Reservoirs an Wissen. Die ausgewählten Werke werfen die Frage nach dem heutigen Status und der Zukunft ihres Materials auf. Das Leitthema der Quadriennale Über das Morgen hinaus ist die Herausforderung, der sich die Medienkunst stellen muss. Gerade solche technologiebasierten Kunstwerke haben auch den Anspruch an eine futuristische Perspektive. Ihre Materialität basiert auf technologisch aufbereiteten – und manches Mal nicht lokalisierbaren – Informationsquellen und dehnt sich aus auf Visualisierungen von intensiv wahrnehmbaren Wissens-, Kommunikations- und Projektionsräumen. For the Quadriennale 2014 the imai foundation for video and media art presents the exhibition 'The Invisible Force Behind. Materiality in Media Art' on the upper floor of NRW-Forum Düsseldorf. The exhibition addresses today’s phenomenon of an increasing loss of corporeal substance due to digitisation and the simultaneous growth of our knowledge reservoir. The selected artworks similarly question the current status as well as the future of their materials. The guiding theme of the Quadriennale -- 'Beyond Tomorrow' -- is a challenge that media art must face at all times since technology-based artworks will invariably interrogate their own future. Their materiality is based on technologically prepared – and sometimes not physically locatable – information sources. The corporeality of the works exhibited is extended into visualisations of knowledge, and communication and projection spaces that offer the visitor intense perceptual experiences. |

Die Gruppenausstellung (kuratiert von Renate Buschmann und Darija Šimunović) versammelt vier raumgreifende Medienkunstinstallationen von Michael Bielicky/Kamila B. Richter, Lutz Mommartz, Jill Scott und Agnes Meyer-Brandis sowie mehrere Videokunstwerke aus dem imai-Archiv (von Alexander Hahn, Gary Hill, Van McElwee, Stansfield/Hoykaas, Steina und Woody Vasulka). The group exhibition (curated by Renate Buschmann and Darija Šimunović) assembles four expansive media art installations by Lutz Mommartz, Michael Bielicky & Kamila B. Richter, Agnes Meyer-Brandis and Jill Scott as well as selected video works from the imai archive (by Alexander Hahn, Gary Hill, Van McElwee, Stansfield/Hoykaas, Steina und Woody Vasulka). |

Im Ehrenhof des Museum Kunstpalast ist in den Abendstunden die Lichtkunstprojektion Reflecting Light zu sehen, die ebenfalls Teil der imai-Ausstellung ist. Das Künstlerduo Mader Wiermann hat Reflecting Light eigens für diesen Ort konzipiert. Auf den großen Fensterflächen des Belvedere-Traktes wird nicht nur eine Videoprojektion sichtbar, sondern es entfaltet sich mit den im Umfeld installierten Scheinwerfern und dazu komponierten Klängen eine eindrucksvolle Video-Licht-Ton-Choreografie. Jeden Abend nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit ist Reflecting Light zwischen 21 und 23 Uhr zu erleben (ab Juni zwischen 22 und 24 Uhr). Am 3. Mai während der Langen Nacht der Museen sind die Vorführzeiten auf den Zeitraum zwischen Mitternacht und 3 Uhr verlegt. After closing hours the exhibition extends into the Ehrenhof courtyard of the Museum Kunstpalast where the light-art projection 'Reflecting Light' plays across the Belvedere windows daily after nightfall. Having been conceived by the artistic duo Mader Wiermann specifically for the occasion, 'Reflecting Light' is a complex artwork in which a rear projection is joined by spotlights that have been installed within the surrounding area and a freshly composed musical score. Together they merge into an immersive choreography of video, light and sound. The installation can be viewed between 9 and 11 pm in May and between 10 pm and midnight in the summer months (June – August). During the 'Long Night of the Museums' on May 3rd the viewing hours will be from midnight to 3 am. |

Zeitgleich ist im Erdgeschoß die Ausstellung des Filmmuseums Düsseldorf Visionen und Alpträume. Die Stadt der Zukunft im Film zu sehen. Öffnungszeiten Di–So 11–18 Uhr, Fr 11–20 Uhr; geöffnet an Feiertagen Eintritt 9,- € / 4,- € ermäßigt (Gilt als Kombiticket für beide Ausstellungen im NRW-Forum) The exhibition 'The Invisible Force Behind.
