Anna Sokolova war 2013 Preisträgerin des Förderpreises für Bildende Kunst der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf. In ihren Arbeiten vereint die in Deutschland lebende weißrussische Künstlerin architektonische Räume und bewegte Bilder, um ihre gegenseitige Wechselwirkung zu untersuchen. In der aktuellen Installationsreihe verwendet Sokolova stets dasselbe Videoelement – einen weißen Streifen auf schwarzem Hintergrund. Mit diesem Element entwickelt sie dynamische Strukturen, die Bestandteil des Ausstellungsraums werden und ihn transformieren. Sokolova erforscht die visuellen Möglichkeiten dieses Elements, das für künstlerische Souveränität und ästhetische Autonomie steht. Im Rahmen des Videoabends stellt die Künstlerin ausgewählte Projekte vor. Anna Sokolova, a Belarusian artist residing in Germany, is the recipient of the 2013 Fine Art Advancement Award of the State Capital Düsseldorf. In her work she explores how architectural spaces and moving images interact with each other. Sokolova’s current installation series all feature the same element – a moving white stripe set against a black background. Using this element she develops dynamic structures that become part of the exhibition space transforming it. Sokolova studies the visual potential of this element, which represents artistic sovereignty and aesthetic autonomy. The artist will present a selection of her works. |

Im zweiten Teil des Abends stellt Holger Mader das Berliner Künstlerduo Mader Wiermann und ihre Herangehensweise bei der Realisierung von Lichtkunstprojekten im öffentlichen Raum vor. Seit 2001 haben Holger Mader und Heike Wiermann international zahlreiche Arbeiten im öffentlichen Raum verwirklicht. Aktuell haben sie für die imai-Ausstellung die Lichtkunstprojektion Reflecting Light im Ehrenhof des Düsseldorfer Museum Kunstpalast geschaffen. Dort ist nicht nur eine Videoprojektion auf der großen Fensterfläche des Belvedere-Traktes zu sehen, sondern es entfaltet sich mit den im Umfeld installierten Scheinwerfern und dazu komponierten Klängen eine eindrucksvolle Video-Licht-Ton-Choreografie. Nach dem Vortrag besteht die Möglichkeit, in Begleitung des Künstlers die Projektion im benachbarten Ehrenhof zu besichtigen, die täglich nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit zu sehen ist (April–Mai 21–23 Uhr, Juni–August 22–24 Uhr). Eine 7-minütige Videodokumentation von Mader Wiermann über Reflecting Light kann sowohl in der imai-Ausstellung als auch online auf Youtube angeschaut werden. In the second part of the evening Holger Mader will introduce the Berlin artist duo Mader Wiermann and talk about their approaches to the realization of their light art projects in public space. Since 2001 Holger Mader and Heike Wiermann have realized numerous projects in and outside of Germany. Their latest one, Reflecting Light, is a light art projection in the Ehrenhof courtyard of the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf. It has been created specifically for the current imai exhibition. In it, a video projection which plays across the large Belvedere windows of the museum is joined by spotlights that have been installed within the surrounding area and a musical score composed especially for the artwork. Together they converge into an impressive choreography of video, light and sound. After the lecture, those interested in viewing the installation live are invited to accompany the artist to the neighbouring Ehrenhof where Reflecting Light is displayed daily after nightfall (April–May 9 pm–11 pm, June–August 10 pm–midnight). A 7-minute video by Mader Wiermann documenting Reflecting Light can be viewed in the imai exhibition as well as online on Youtube. |

ARENA – Ein Videoparcours für die Düsseldorfer Altstadt am 31. Mai 2014 von 14:00 - 24:00 Uhr / Eintritt frei An diesem Samstag werden in ausgewählten Lokalen der Altstadt rund zwanzig Kunstvideos zu sehen sein. Die Auswahl der Arbeiten geht von der Topologie der Orte aus und greift auf subtile Weise in die bestehenden Inszenierungen ein. Sie wird vom Düsseldorfer Künstler und Kurator Jan Wagner in Kooperation mit der Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf kuratiert. Zum Videoparcours ARENA wird es einen Augmented Reality Browser für Smartphones geben, eine App, die den Quadriennale-Besucher zu den Lokalen führt und die Altstadt als Spielfeld markiert.
Außerdem sind zwei Langfilme im Altstadt Kino Cinema von Ryan Trecartin und Isa Genzken & Kai Althoff zu sehen. Ein Konzert des US-amerikanischen Musikers, Video- und Performance-Künstlers Charlemagne Palestine findet um 20:00 Uhr in der Neanderkirche statt. Das genaue Programm finden Sie hier >> ARENA – A Video Circuit through the Old Town of Düsseldorf May 31st 2014, 2 pm – midnight / Free admission Roughly twenty video artworks will be shown in selected venues across the Old Town next Saturday. The choice of the works was based on the topology of the locations seeking an organic integration of art into the local scenery. The event is curated by the local artist Jan Wagner in cooperation with the Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf. There is a free augmented reality app for Wagner’s ARENA video circuit that shows Quadriennale visitors the way to the participating establishments. Additionally, two feature films by Ryan Trecartin and Isa Genzken & Kai Althoff will be shown in the Old Town movie theatre Cinema.
