The focus of this current edition is the product Filava™, a special filament yarn made of volcanic rock with very particular properties. This product is at the core of our new cooperation with the company Isomatex S.A. We are convinced that this newsletter edition also contains interesting information for you.

Filava™ - the mineral high performance fiber - an excellent substitute for aramids at high temperatures

Filava™ is a filament yarn made of enhanced volcanic rock, manufactured in a melt spinning process and contains various other mineral additives. Filava™ stands for high tensile strength in combination with excellent alkali and chemical resistance. In terms of its high temperature resistance of up to 730 °C and the compatibility with high temperature variations, Filava™ is superior to comparable glass and steel fibers. In addition, the material has a high E-modulus and can be used in many applications as a substitute for numerous aramid and carbon fibers.

Filava™ - potential applications

Filava™ is used in the following applications:

Fire and flame resistant clothes
Heat protection
Ballistics
Reinforcement of structural concrete
Wind energy or naval constructions
Cabling insulation
Chemical filters at high temperatures
Oil pipelines
etc.

Since 1 June 2019, Gruschwitz Textilwerke AG is the exclusive distribution partner of Isomatex S.A. and there fore responsable for the converting and sale for large parts of Europe.
