Wrocław University Library
The Wrocław University Library has over three hundred years of experience in serving the University and the city of Wroclaw and is the largest academic library in southwestern Poland. It holds circa 2,5 million volumes, 0,5 million of which are constituted by special collections, unique on a European scale, such as a rich collection of manuscripts and a collection of old prints which is the largest in Poland. It develops in the form of a hybrid library, combining elements of traditional and digital libraries, and is currently in the process of transferring its resources into a new, modern building. In the new building the library space will be filled up with technology. In its new form the library will support the trend of changes at European universities relying on the fact that they should not only deal with knowledge transfer but by knowledge application and innovations, generations can join in economic development of the country.

The Library will be available for a visit as part of the Wrocław’s Academic and Scientific Library Tour. More details on the IFLA WLIC 2017 website.

Wroclaw – City of Museums
We encourage IFLA delegates to explore fascinating museums in Wroclaw. Among others we recommend the following attractions:
Pan Tadeusz Museum, organized by the Ossolineum Library, is located in Wrocław Square Market. It holds the manuscript of the “Pan Tadeusz” by Polish romantic poet Adam Mickiwicz – one of the most important Polish literary texts. However, the masterpiece of Polish poetry is not the only attraction. Organized around it is all the remaining 7 topical permanent exhibition rooms, housing 20 historic exhibits, 100 games, applications and animations. There are, among others, rooms devoted to traditional Polish customs - the official, public ones, including government offices and hunting, as well as private, with the culture of home and the table.

Museum of Contemporary Art is located next to the Congress venue – the Centennial Hall, in the Four Domes Pavilion, one of the most interesting modernist buildings of Wrocław. It was designed by Hans Poelzig and built in the years 1912-1913 with the use of reinforced concrete. In 2006 it became part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The museum presents a collection of Polish contemporary art created by the most prominent artists of the second half of the 20th century and 21st century.

Panorama of the battle of Racławice. It is an unusual museum which exhibits only one monumental picture: 114 m long and 15 m high, presenting the battle of Racłwice in 1894. It was painted by the end of 19th century, but technology applied by the authors can be compared to the contemporary 3D technology. Special, panoramic perspective, lighting and scenography constructed in front of the picture make it look multidimensional. During the visit, the viewers can listen to the history of the painting and the events presented in 16 languages (including Korean, Japanese, Croatian and Esperanto).

Museum of Architecture is the only museum in Poland solely devoted to the history of architecture and contemporary architecture. It is located in a breathtaking interior - the old Benedctine monastery, built in the second half of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. The purpose of the Museum was to collect and catalogue the remaining architectonic elements of the buildings destroyed during the war. The most valuable ones were gathered in a permanent, constantly growing exhibition.
