When hands learn to speak...
German Sign Language Courses for Students and Employees at the TU Dresden
Gestures, facial expressions and signs have always been connected with language all over the world and have been an essential part of communication. For most people, language is determined by hearing and speaking, but especially with physical gestures an immense amount can be conveyed and achieved, but in the dialogue with other cultures it can also quickly lead to misunderstandings, because gestures and facial expressions are, like languages in general, culturally connoted. Every language is accompanied by gestures and signs. Although sign language has been used for centuries, German Sign Language has only been recognized as a language in its own right since 2002. Further information about sign language.
Especially worth reading are the current interviews with the two lecturers of the TU Dresden language courses in German Sign Language:https://tud.link/fx43
Students and employees of the TU Dresden have the opportunity to participate in the language courses, which offer an introduction to German Sign Language.
Three introductory courses are available (2 online classes and 1 face-to-face class) at different times on three different days of the week, as well as two in-depth courses (1 online class and 1 face-to-face class) at different times and days of the week.
In the beginning, participants may be unaccustomed to the fact that no spoken language is used at all in the courses; the audio level remains muted in the digital version.
Communication in the courses takes place almost exclusively via sign language, only as a substitute the chat function is sometimes used/ or written on slips of paper.
In the face-to-face courses, a hearing sign language interpreter will probably be present in the first course hours.
There are 12 dates per course. Each class is 60 minutes.
Registration for the courses takes place via the Center for Continuing Education (ZfW). Under the respective link of each course, you will find the link to the course in the ZfW catalog where you can register.

We very much hope to be able to offer courses about German Sign Language courses again in the next semester.
