On November 17, 2022, Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Eberhard Krocker passed away, a few weeks after completing his ninety-fifth year. A long life in the service of science has come to an end. Prof. Krocker was one of the scientific fathers of communications engineering as an engineering science at the Technical University of Dresden. He dedicated his entire life to the scientific fields that can be summarized under the term "Electrical Information Technology". He was a professor at the TU Dresden for 37 years. For 27 of these years he was active as a full professor and head of the chair "Systems of Information Processing" with a teaching assignment for telecommunications engineering.
In order to draw attention to the achievements of women in the engineering sciences and to encourage them to take up studies in these disciplines as well as to pursue a scientific career, the Daimler and Benz Foundation awards the Bertha Benz Prize annually to a female engineer who has completed an outstanding doctorate in Germany with a Dr.-Ing. degree.
In 2020, Dr. Kathrin Philipp received the Bertha-Benz Prize. She is completing her doctorate at the TU Dresden in the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
From now on, the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL) will be coordinating the continuing education program for teaching and learning enhancement at TU Dresden and will act as the first point of contact on the topic of teaching. This means that ZiLL will be taking over this task from the Center for Continuing Education. The courses will be created in cooperation with the Center for University Didactics in Saxony (Hochschuldidaktisches Zentrum Sachsen, HDS) and will cover a wide range of topics.
Dr. Yana Vaynzof has been appointed as a new professor for Novel Electronics Technologies at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering on January 1, 2023. In addition, the multi-award-winning scientist will take over as director of the Institute for Novel Electronics Technologies at the Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW).
Her research interests focus on the development of novel semiconducting materials with particular focus on their integration into photovoltaic devices. She was already awarded an ERC Starting Grant in 2017. In her new ERC project "PEROVAP - Engineering Metal Halide Perovskites by Vapour Deposition", she has set herself the goal of developing novel methods to specifically and systematically manipulate the properties of thermally vapour-deposited metal halide perovskites.
Robotics has evolved at an unprecedented rate over the past several decades. Yet many robots remain inflexible, cumbersome and noisy. Now, the TU Dresden spin-off PowerON seeks to change that. It aims to break down the barrier between humans and robots. The next generation of robotics will feature sensory skins, fabricated muscles and artificial neurons printed on flexible materials, opening up new fields of application.
The UMSICHT Science Award is sponsored by the UMSICHT Sponsoring Association. It is awarded to people who make scientific results from environmental, process or energy technology accessible to society in an outstanding way. Apply now until February 28, 2023. All published works are eligible that deal with the topics of environmental, process or energy technology.
The project week BeING Inside(27.03.-31.03.2023) is a realistic simulation of an industrial project. Within one week, prospective students and first-year students work in interdisciplinary teams on a problem from corporate practice. This year's corporate partner is Infratec with a topic from infrared technology. For this purpose, specialist and team coaches are still being sought to assist the interdisciplinary teams in working on the practical task.
The third digital Long Night of Procrastination (LNDS) of the Writing Centre of TU Dresden and the SLUB will take place under the motto "Together instead of alone"
