Summer cinema on the HSZ meadow
It's summer, and what could be more appropriate for a cinema than to break free from the narrow confines and go outdoors!
The Kino im Kasten is proud to present an open-air event series on the campus in collaboration with the Sachgebiet Campusleben and the student council of the TU Dresden. Starting on June 2, we will show a summer film every Friday at 9:30 p.m. on the meadow directly behind the lecture hall center.
Come early and secure one of the 50 comfortable StuRa lounge chairs and enjoy a wonderful evening with your friends, classmates or colleagues.
You can also bring a blanket to sit directly on the meadow. Mosquito repellent and warm clothing are recommended. In case of rain or storms, the respective film screenings will be moved to the cinema hall at Kino im Kasten and will start there at the same time. Please check our website and/or social media channels for information in case of bad weather.

A Polish theatre company gets roped into the resistance just as Germany is invading the country. The blame can be firmly placed on the complex relations between lead actor Joseph (Jack Benny), his wife Maria (Carole Lombard) and the pilot Sobinski (Robert Stack). Barely hidden behind the comedy, Jewish director Lubitzsch builds his appeal to antifascism.

Juno (OmU)
Snippy teenager Juno (Elliot Page) is pretty damn surprised to hold a positive pregnancy test in her hands. After all, she had just one brief One Night Stand with her best pal Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). Alas, a decision has to be made: What should be done with the growing fetus? Both Diablo Cody's script and the film's soundtrack date Juno firmly to the 2000s at their Indie-trendiest, but this tale about an unwanted pregnany and the young woman who grows up because of it remains pretty up to date. Front and center: Juno's freedom to choose her own, and maybe her baby's, future.

The (fictional) little town of Bomont, Utah seems to represent every cliché haunting the state: cozy, rural, highly religious. Big City boy Ren (Kevin Bacon) isn't thrilled to move here, especially since Reverend Moore (John Lithgow), in cahoots with the city council, has banned all dancing around town. And dancing is one of Ren's great passions – with Rev. Moore's daughter Ariel (Lori Singer) soon becoming another… Primarily considered a classic dance flick, Footloose's critique towards religious dogma and its central conflict between sparring generations also cement the film as a love letter to a youthful fight for freedom.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (OmU)
Shy and depressed freshman Charlie (Logan Lerman) has great trouble fitting in at his new Pittsburgh high school. With some assistance by his English teacher (Paul Rudd) and quirky silblings Sam and Patrick (Emma Roberts and Ezra Miller, respectively) he manages to finally get out of his shell. But anxieties, lovesickness and past traumas threaten to haunt Charlie once more. With lots of heart and sympathy, Chbosky manages to confront important issues like abuse, homophobia and mental illness in this adaptation of his own novel. But most importantly: He shines a light on the small precious moments in life that help us heal our wounds.

His flailing grades, a hopeless crush on his teacher (Olivia Williams) and his friendship with industrialist Blume (Bill Murray) get in the way of his ambitions. Now the young man from a humble background must assess where his true priorities lie, all whilst teaching us a lesson about the freedom to choose your own path.

Ferris Bueller's day off (OmU)
If you're stuck in the beige halls of your run-of-the-mill Chicago high school, life sure can seem to pass you by. Well, not on Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick)'s watch! In order to treat himself to a truly extraordinary day, he plays sick in front of his parents and recruits his grilfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck). With a Ferrari supplied by the latter(s dad), the trio goes on a trip through Chicago, inspects some sights and does loads of mischief. In the end, Ferris' message radiates through the screen: You've got to take the time to enjoy your life.
