Two Researchers from the Digital Health Research Group receive a PostDoc Starter Kit 

Dr. Peggy Richter and Dr. Jeannette Stark (both from the Digital Health Research Group) have been awarded a PostDoc Starter Kit from the Graduate Academy. They will each receive 10,000€, which can be used, for example, to finance student assistans, to invite guest researcher, or to participate in further training measures and conferences.

Ianina Scheuch receives Internationalization Award 2022

The Internationalization Award has existed at TU Dresden since 2016. On October 19, 2022 Ianina Scheuch (Chair of Business and Economics Education) was awarded the prize. The award recognizes her great personal commitment to various initiatives on the international campus, the promotion of mental health and social cohesion.

Business Administration Ranking: Several researchers of the faculty with very good results

In the current business administration ranking, several professors of the faculty achieve good results.  In the ranking of the most productive researchers under the age of 40 (period 2019-2022),  Prof. Dr. Benedikt Brendel is ranked 39th. Prof. Dr. Martin Wiener and Prof. Dr. Benedikt Brendel achieve TOP 100 rankings in the ranking of the most productive researcher in the German-speaking area in the period of 2018-2022, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Günther and Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Günther are listed in the lifetime achievement ranking.

Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum appointed as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB)

The Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) in Wiesbaden has a new head on its advisory board: Prof. Dr. Marcel Thum (Chair of Public Economics) is the new chairman of the Board of Trustees. The BiB has the task of examining population development and structure and advising the federal government and the federal ministries on the basis of scientific research.

On December 16, 2022 Dr. Jana Stolz-Römmermann, former research assistant at the Chair of Marketing, was appointed Professor of Tourism Management at the SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann appointed Deputy Scientific Director of ZIS 

Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann was appointed Deputy Scientific Director of the Center for International Studies (ZIS). He therefore is a member of the Scientific Council, which is the highest body of ZIS and responsible for the organization and content of the study of International Economics, the research strategy, and important internal decisions.

Jun.-Prof. Dr. Samanthi Dijkstra-Silva is a new member of the board of PRISMA, the Centre for Sustainability Assessment and Policy at TU Dresden. The board manages the centre and now consists of four members with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Samanthi Dijkstra-Silva, Prof. Dr. Jochen Schanze, Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Günther and Prof. Dr. Peter Saling.

Does Corporate Planning pay off? Study published in Strategic Management Journal

Managers who doubt whether planning is still worthwhile in turbulent times will get a clear answer from the study Meta-analysis of the Corporate Planning–Organizational Performance Relationship: A Research Note" by Maik Hamann, Oliver Halw and Thomas Günther: Planning is worthwhile. The authors meta-analyzed 183 studies. Corporate planning is clearly correlated with corporate success. The effect is stable over time and also for different types of planning. However, the effect of planning on corporate success depends on the business environment.

The textbook Economics of Power Systems – Fundamentals for Sustainable Energy by Christoph Weber, Wolf Fichtner and Dominik Möst has been published in the series "Springer Texts in Business and Economics". The textbook is aimed at students and doctoral candidates in the field of energy economics.

Campbell Watkins Energy Journal Best Paper Award 2022

The International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) selected the work Stranded Asset Risk and Political Uncertainty: The Impact of the Coal Phase-Out on the German Coal Industry as the best paper published in The Energy Journal in 2022. The study is co-authored by Miriam Breitenstein, Carl-Philipp Anke, Duc Khuong Nguyen, and Thomas Walther and builds upon Miriam Breitenstein’s diploma thesis written at Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Services. Every year since 1989, the IAEE honors the most outstanding paper of all studies published in The Energy Journal during the previous year.

Call for Applications: Professor Hilbert Publication Award 2023

The Faculty of Business and Economics awards the Professor Hilbert Publication Award to early-career scholars who succeeded in publishing outstanding journal articles in 2022. The purpose of this award is to honor the scientific activities of doctoral students, postdocs, and junior professors of the Faculty of Business and Economics and to make their research visible to the outside world. Nominations must be sent to the Dean by February 20, 2023.

Teaching Award 2022 for the International Master Module "Collaboration in the Virtual Classroom" of the Chair of Information Management

The Teaching Award of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the TU Dresden (GFF) honors innovative teaching and learning concepts. This includes the English-language module “Collaboration in the Virtual Classroom“. On December 14, 2022 during the TU Dresden Senate meeting, Mattis Altmann and Prof. Dr. Eric Schoop received the award, which is endowed with 5,000€.

Teaching Award 2022 for the "Businessplan Seminar" of the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation

The Business Plan Seminar offered by the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation was standardized and awarded because it incorporates the most diverse contents of a business degree and builds a very good bridge between theory and practice. Sophie Kutzsch and Prof. Dr. Michael Schefczyk received the award.

Dissertation of Dr. Philipp Hauser among the top three dissertations of the year 2022 

The former member of the Chair of Energy Economics, Dr. Philipp Hauser, was invited to the final symposium of the GEE Award of the Energy Forum Berlin on December 2, 2022 and is therefore one of the three best dissertations of the year 2022.

Within the scope of his dissertation, Dr. Philipp Hauser provides an important and highly topical contribution with model-based analyzes on the diversification of German and European gas imports.

Two „Best Paper Runner-Up Awards“ at ACIS 2022 in Melbourne

The annual Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS) brings together researchers to present and discuss their latest research results in the field of information systems. At this year's conference, two of the faculty's PhD students, Hannes Fischer and Sebastian Käss, presented their research work and received Best Paper Awards.

Award of the Deutsche Bundesbank for Julian Lamprecht

Julian Lamprecht, research assistant and doctoral student at the Chair of Public Economics, has received the Prize of the Deutsche Bundesbank. The prize money will support a two-week research stay at the Athens University of Economics and Business. Together with Professor Sarantis Kalyvitis, Julian Lamprecht wants to take a closer look at the interaction between government instruments of climate policy and green finance.

Research stay by Dr. Gunda-Alexandra Detmers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

From September to October 2022, Dr. Gunda-Alexandra Detmers completed a research stay in Kuala Lumpur, which was funded by the Award of the Deutsche Bundesbank for International Research Cooperation.

Besides the scientific exchange, the central aims of the research stay were to develop research projects and to deepen the cooperation with Sui-Jade Ho (Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysian Central Bank) and Özer Karagedikli (Asia School of Business in cooperation with MIT Sloan School of Management).

Continuing Education Program in Teaching and Learning Enhancement from now on at the ZiLL

From now on, the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL) will be coordinating the continuing education program for teaching and learning enhancement at TU Dresden and will act as the first point of contact on the topic of teaching. This means that ZiLL will be taking over this task from the Center for Continuing Education.

Contact persons for continuing education in teaching and learning enhancement at the TU Dresden are Michael Sommer and Tobias Weber from the newly founded team Teaching and Learning Enhancement in Higher Education.

Student representatives newly appointed to committees

On 06./07.12.2023 elections were held at the TU Dresden. Especially the students were called to elect new student representatives for the faculty council. The FSR Wiwi has reconstituted itself at the beginning of January and new representatives for examination boards and study commissions as well as student studies co-coordinators could be appointed.

We will start with Paul Consultants e.V., the student consultancy at the TU Dresden. PAUL stands for learning from companies in projects. Thereby PAUL is from students for students. This means that everyone can get involved individually and help decide which projects are carried out.

Why to study Industrial Engineering and Management?: New workshop of the VWI e.V. for pupils

The VWI e.V. at TU Dresden has developed a workshop offer which is aimed at pupils from grade 8 and is intended to create interest in Industrial Engineering and Management.The workshop was tested at the beginning of January in the context of the Junior Engineer Academy with students of a Dresden high school. Under the guidance of four students who were divided into the areas of production, marketing, sales and controlling, the pupils had to work out the respective areas of responsibility themselves within one hour.

The faculty day with award ceremonies and inaugural lectures will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the 2022/23 graduates‘ farewell ceremony will follow in the AUDIMAX. The event will conclude with a faculty party beginning at 6 p.m.
