Clover Optimization: Felix Tamke und Leopold Kuttner bring 75th Start-up Scholarship to TU Dresden

Felix Tamke and Leopold Kuttner have developed algorithms for decision support as part of their research and project work at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management. Their research makes it possible to optimize the loading of vehicles already during route planning.

At the end of 2022, the team was able to acquire the 75th EXIST start-up grant ("EXIST-Gründerstipendium") for the TU Dresden and has since been joined by Maurice Morabel in the field of Venture Development.

Best Paper Honorable Mention Award for Prof. Dr. Benedikt Brendel

The Paper "On the Design of and Interaction with Conversational Agents: An Organizing and Assessing Review of Human-Computer Interaction Research" of Stephan Dederich, Alfred Benedikt Brendel, Stefan Morana, und Lutz Kolbe wins the "Best Paper Honorable Mention Award" of the Journal of the Assocaition for Information Systems (JAIS) for the year 2022.

Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf is the new holder of the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance 

Since March 2023, Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf is the new professor of Business Administration, esp. Finance. He moved to Dresden from the University of Bremen, where he held the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Financial Services and Financial Technology. Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf's research focuses are financial technology, financial innovations, data economics, and behavioral economics.

TU Dresden appoints Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart as new holder of the Chair of Innovation and Technology Management

TU Dresden has appointed Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart to the newly created professorship for Innovation and Technology Management at the Faculty of Business and Economics as of March 1, 2023, as part of the Excellence Strategy. The former Minister for Science and Economics for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia moved to Dresden from the University of Siegen, where he previously held the Chair of Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management.

Two sucessful Dresden Fellows Applications

Prof. Dr. Remmer Sassen and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Samanthi Dijkstra-Silva can be pleased about the approval of their applications for the Dresden Fellowship Program of TU Dresden.

Katherine Christ (University of South California) will visit the faculty in spring, Namchul Chin (Pace University) from August till Mid November.

Joint Academic Writing Workshop with King's College London

The Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management, together with Rym M'Hallah, Professor of Systems Engineering at King's College London, is organizing a workshop to support PhD candidates in producing high quality publications in OR. The workshop will take place both at King's College London (June 12th to 14th) and at TU Dresden (September 25th to 27th) and is funded by transCampus.

Among the altogether extremely renowned key note speakers is Roman Słowiński, Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Operational Research, the leading OR journal. The workshop thus also offers excellent opportunities to establish contacts for future research projects.

EU project "Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure for the European Union" (CCI4EU) starts in May

On May 1st, a new EU Project on Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure for the European Union (CCI4EU) will officially start. The project network comprises 55 Partners, including major European Cancer Organisations, cancer centers, and other representatives of all the EU Member States and several Associate Countries. The Research Group Digital Health is part of the CCI4EU consortium and will develop and implement a maturity model for CCIs to be used to analyze the maturity of CCIs across the EU.

Kick-off for INTEVI project with the University Hospital Dresden

As part of the eHealthSax funding program, a joint research project between the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management and the University Hospital Dresden was launched at the beginning of this year.

The goal is the development of an intelligent transfer management for the data-driven recommendation of transfers of intensive care patients (INTEVI). In the project, artificial intelligence methods will be used.

Felix Hirsch is a research associate and doctoral student at the Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Business Engineering. In an interview, he provides insights into the research questions and initial results of his dissertation and explains how a doctorate and work in a DFG project can be combined.

Doctoral seminar of the Chair of Energy Economics in Cavalese

The Chair of Energy Economics held its annual doctoral seminar in Cavalese, Italy, from January 31st to February 4th, 2023. The seminar serves to advance the dissertation topics and is intended to promote an open, focused, constructive and fair discussion among all participants, to identify synergies between the works and to highlight progress.

PhD regular's table: Successful start and new dates

Since the beginning of the year, there has been a PhD regulars' table at the faculty which takes place once a month. After the successful start, a number of further dates have now been set for the summer semester.

The Unequal Burden of Human-Wildflife Conflict: Interdisciplinary paper published in Communications Biology

In a new publication in the journal Communications Biology the income losses of cattle breeders due to predator attacks on herds is examined. Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann (Chair of Economics, esp. International Economics) worked on the project together with colleagues from Australia and North America, among others.

The impact of Well-Known Business Angels on Venture Performance: Publication in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice

Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance) has published a new article in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice under the title "Playing the Business Angel: The Impact of Well-Known Business Angels on Venture Performance". Together with Daniel Blaseg from Esade Business School he analyzes the effects of a venture’s affiliation with a well-known person on the quality perceptions of various stakeholders.

Prof. Dr. Martin Wiener (Chair of Business Engineering) has been awarded the Faculty Mentor Award 2022 of the AIS Doctoral Student College. The AIS Doctoral Student College is open to all graduate students and early-career scholars in information systems who are members of AIS in good standing. The College provides a forum for discourse between graduate students and early-career scholars.

Survey for Students: Sustainability in Teaching

Over the past 25 years, many higher education institutions have integrated sustainability in their teaching schemes. Nevertheless, we still do not know exactly how sustainability related competencies are acquired practically. A research project conducted by Prof. Remmer Sassen (TU Dresden) and Prof. Rodrigo Lozano (University Gävle) in cooperation with 21 international higher education institutions shall close this knowledge gap by asking students how they perceive the development of sustainability related competencies and which educational concepts are used in teaching.

The faculty day with award ceremonies and inaugural lectures will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the 2022/23 graduates‘ farewell ceremony will follow in the AUDIMAX. The event will conclude with a faculty party beginning at 6 p.m.
