Prof. Michael Beckmann re-elected as chairman for the School ING

On October 20, Prof. Michael Beckmann was re-elected as chairman of the School of Engineering Sciences. For the next three years, he will continue to represent the ING school vis-à-vis the Rectorate and externally. Prof. Karlheinz Bock was elected as his first deputy. Prof. Ivo F. Sbalzarini was already elected as second deputy last year.

DFG Review Board Election 2023

All doctoral researchers in the ING school are invited to cast their vote for science. From October 23 to November 20, 2023, they can elect their representatives to the specialist evaluation committees of the German Research Foundation. All eligible voters at the TUD will receive their election documents from the TUD Academic Committees team in good time before the election. On the back of the election letter you will find the election number and the access code with which you can register for the online election system.

Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti appointed member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech)

At this year's acatech General Assembly, Gianaurelio Cuniberti, Professor of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at TUD, was presented with the membership certificate for admission to the Academy. "I am very honoured to be included in this distinguished group of leading researchers," says Cuniberti. "The election is both an honour and an obligation, because acatech advises politics and society on issues relating to technology science and technology policy for the future."

Public Internet exchange point for Dresden and Saxony to be realised with the participation of TUD computer scientists

Scientists from the Chair of Distributed and Networked Systems founded the DD-IX e.V. together with other internet enthusiasts at the beginning of October. The association will operate the first public Internet exchange point DD-IX in Dresden. The aim is to make digitisation in the Saxony region faster and more reliable and thus also more ecological and economical.

International partnerships of the TU Dresden now online

Information on TUD's international partnerships is now available with the new Mobility Online Dashboard. The publicly accessible dashboard provides information on existing cooperation and exchange agreements. The TUD-internal version also offers additional information on mobility figures and activities. It is planned to expand the Mobility Online Dashboard as a central information platform for TUD's international partnerships.

What does the optimal office chair look like? | Short question to Mark Bührer

Working in an office and excessive sitting can lead to health problems. Tension and back pain can be the result. At the TUD, the "Own Personal Care" project is using motion capturing to research what kind of office chairs can minimise this risk and enable ergonomic sitting. Project leader Mark Bührer from the Chair of Labour Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering also knows how much movement is necessary in everyday office life to stay healthy in the long term.

Electronic technologies for a more sustainable future | Introducing Yana Vaynzof

How can we develop photovoltaic technologies that are not only high performing but also sustainable? Prof. Yana Vaynzof focuses in her research on a remarkable class of semiconducting materials that can be processed by simple deposition methods and at low temperatures and applied in highly efficient photovoltaic devices. As of 2023 she holds the Chair of Emerging Electronic Technologies at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is Director of the Institute for Emerging Electronic Technologies at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden.

DFG Explaining Video: BIAS in the Decision and Review Process

The decisions of the German Research Foundation (DFG) on the awarding of funding are based on the principle of competition. All incoming proposals go through a multi-stage process that strictly separates review, evaluation and decision. The video addresses the issue of BIAS in the decision and review process. It illustrates how important it is to avoid prejudice in order to use all potential and talent and to make funding decisions in a science-led and non-discriminatory manner.
