TU Dresden at the Times Higher Education (THE) Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand

TU Dresden is taking part in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) as an exhibitor. Participation underlines the University of Excellence's commitment to sustainability and provides a good opportunity to showcase the diversity of efforts towards a sustainable future.

With its active presence at the GSDC, TU Dresden shows that it is following the call to action of the organizer THE and is actively involved in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Dresden Declaration on a climate and socially just building transition

The Deans' and Department Heads' Conference for Architecture, Spatial Planning and Landscape Architecture in the Federal Republic of Germany (DARL) adopted a Dresden Declaration at its meeting at TU Dresden on April 26, 2024. In it, the academics support Architects 4 Future's call to adapt the curricula of the degree programs in the sense of a building turnaround.

Model project "On integrated cultural landscape development using the example of the Fürstensteiner Grund"

TU Dresden and the University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Wrocław (UPWr) have carried out a model project for the preservation of natural and cultural heritage in Fürstensteiner Grund (Lower Silesia/Poland). It is characterized by the combination of cultural history, garden monument preservation, nature and water conservation as well as tourism.

The Hoyerswerda Mitmach Laboratory opened its doors

The Hoyerswerda Mitmach Laboratory has been open to all citizens since April 2024. Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh and Prof. Günther Prokop, Head of the Chair of Automotive Engineering at TU Dresden and contact person for the "Safety of connected and automated road traffic" (SivaS) research project, were also guests at the opening.

Design for the Sto Group's Innovation Campus

Schulz and Schulz win competition for Sto's new innovation center

Professors Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz emerge as the winners of the invitational competition with 15 pre-nominated participants. They have been professors of design and construction at the TU Dresden's Faculty of Architecture since 2018.

Bauball 2024 and presentation of the Züblin Steel Construction Prize

The Züblin Steel Construction Prize was awarded for the 12th time at the Dresdner Bauball, the largest annual student event for civil engineers at TU Dresden. This year, the structural design by Carolin Schleicher and Lea Müller was awarded 1st prize. The joint design was created in the winter semester 2023/2024 as part of the topic ‘SALTO MORTALE - Replacement multi-purpose sports hall, Pieschen - Dresden, district on the Elbe’ published by the Chair of Architectural Design and Construction I in cooperation with the Chair of Structural Design.

SustainaShell receives national award in the category "Components and Construction Types"

SustainaShell is a research group made up of representatives from the Institute of Building Climatology / TU Dresden, WiD Wohnen in Dresden GmbH & Co. KG and EA Systems Dresden GmbH. It has developed an innovative external wall insulation with an integrated, renewable energy concept for the low-impact refurbishment of existing buildings.

ZENIT Innovation Award for Solar.con with participation of the Institute for Building Materials

Solar.con is an exposed concrete facade system with integrated small PV modules that was developed as part of a research collaboration between Hering Bau GmbH & Co. KG, HTWK Leipzig, Sunovation GmbH, Fraunhofer CSP and the TU Dresden Institute for Building Materials.

Prof. Alfred Benedikt Brendel, Professor of Information Systems, TU Dresden

Prize for outstanding doctoral supervision 2024

This year's prize, which is endowed with 3,000 euros and is intended to promote young academics, went to Prof. Alfred Benedikt Brendel, Chair of Information Systems, in particular Intelligent Systems and Services.
He has now accepted an appointment at the Indiana University (USA). From July 1, 2024, he will be researching and teaching at the world-renowned Kelly School of Business there.

Second place for Jing Shan at TRA VISIONS 2024

Jing Shan from the TU Dresden Chair of Railway Systems Operation was honored at the "TRA VISIONS Conference 2024 - Young Researcher Competition" on April 15, 2024 in Dublin. He achieved second place in the "Transport Mode Rail" category with his work.

Christina Scheffler accepts appointment to the Chair of Polymers in Construction

Prof. Christina Scheffler has been active at TU Dresden for several years in various programs for the development of novel building materials. Since February 1, 2024, she holds the new chair, which promotes innovative research in the field of sustainable material technologies.

Expansion of CFEA progresses with phase 2

The second funding phase for the establishment of the Core Facility Environmental Analytics (CFEA) at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences has been approved by the German Research Foundation (DFG) following the successful completion of the first three-year funding phase. The DFG will support the further development from April 1, 2024 for two years with around 440,000 euros.

Project to develop a new supply chain framework approved by DFG

The project "Optimal planning of modular production networks and locations for a sustainable process industry - development and analysis of planning models for decision support", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), integrates mathematical optimization models for the planning of modular production networks and locations. The project enables innovative research in the field of operations research and offers numerous starting points for further research into the use and planning of modular production concepts.

Mandy Schipke is the alumna of the month April 2024 .

Alumna of the month April 2024

"Founding a company is a marathon," explains Mandy Schipke, Managing Director of Dresden-based NOVUM engineering GmbH, which recently won the Saxon Innovation Prize 2023, and Chairwoman of the Energy Saxony network. "We don't need more companies, we need good companies.  In order to do this, we have to make them good and human factors play a decisive role in this."

TU Dresden at the 10th World Water Forum on Bali, Indonesia

The 10th World Water Forum, which took place from May 19 to 24, 2024, drew global attention to pressing water issues and sustainable practices. The theme for 2024 was "Water for Shared Prosperity". In total, over 30,000 registered participants from 172 countries took part in the Forum.

New international Master's degree program "Water Security and Global Change"

TU Dresden, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and RWTH Aachen University have launched the new joint Master's degree program "Water Security and Global Change". It is organized under the umbrella of the "Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre - ABCD-Centre".

On April 1, Triphine Ainembabazi from Uganda began her one-year research stay at the Chair of Meteorology. She is conducting research in the field of climate change adaptation on the topic of "Survival at Thresholds: Assessing Resilience Pathways of Smallholder Farmers to Climate Extremes in Eastern Uganda".

CIPSEM is the focus of the alumni magazine "Kontakt-online"

Around 2700 experts from 145 countries have so far taken part in the international postgraduate programs in environmental management for developing countries run by the partner organizations UNEP, UNESCO and BMUV, laying the foundations for a remarkable career.
