No brainchild of the GDR

In 1977, the first “UNEP/UNESCO International Postgraduate Training Course on Environmental Management for Developing Countries” was held at TU Dresden (TUD). The course was developed in 1975 as part of the International Environmental Education Program (IEEP) designed by UNEP and UNESCO.

CIPSEM courses to jump-start your career

Since 1977, over 2,750 experts from 145 countries have participated in the CIPSEM courses. Every year, the Alumni Team surveys those who completed the course five or ten years ago. Many have achieved notable professional positions or political office, and the courses have had a gratifyingly positive impact in other ways.

All courses are different

Only nine percent of the applications from all over the world for the programs offered by the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management (CIPSEM) can be accepted. This is what makes the Central Academic Unit of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at TUD so special.

Climate protection fellowship for future leaders

Anyone doing academic or practical work in climate protection in a non-European developing or emerging country, can apply for an International Climate Protection Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. CIPSEM is the partner.

Armenian economic and environmental expert on a global assignment

Dr. Erik Grigoryan has held several international and professional positions. After participating in the 30th CIPSEM course at TUD, he entered government service. From 2018 to 2020, he was Armenia's Minister of the Environment. Now he is an entrepreneur.

“The CIPSEM team is the icing on the cake”

Dr. Maria Jose Iturbide-Flores is the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala. She completed the 88th UNEP/UNESCO/BMUV International Short Course on Nature-based Solutions to Water Challenges at TUD in fall 2023.

Co-author of the Progress Report on Climate Technology 2023

Dr. Adedoyin Adeleke studied mechanical engineering and energy economics in Nigeria. After attending the CIPSEM course, he had a plan. But it didn't work in his home country. He told Kontakt-online about his current concerns and how he managed to get a street renamed "Green Growth Avenue".
