On Faculty Day, we are very much looking forward to the inaugural lectures by Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology) and Prof. Dr. Peter Schäfer (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Management Accounting and Control). Labor Markets in Central Europe in Challenging Times (LaMaCE)

In this project, Prof. Dr. Kamila Cygan-Rehm will work with researchers from Poland and the Czech Republic to investigate how labor markets in Central Europe are coping with the challenges of recent years, in particular the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the immigration of Ukrainian refugees, and how they are changing as a result. The project has a duration of 36 months.

Optimal planning of modular production networks and locations for a sustainable process industry

The aim of the DFG-funded project by
Jun.-Prof. Dr. Tristan Becker (Junior Professorship in Business Administration, esp. Management Science) together with Professor Dr. Stefan Lier (FH Südwestfalen) is to develop a new supply chain framework that integrates mathematical optimization models for the planning of modular production networks and locations.

Dr. Janis Neufeld appointed to W3 professorship at the OvGU Madgeburg

PD Dr. habil. Janis Neufeld (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management) has received and accepted an appointment to the W3 professorship for Business Administration, esp. Operations Management at Otto von Guericke University Madgeburg. He will leave the Faculty and the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management on June 1, 2024.

Dr. Jantke de Boer appointed junior professor at the Ruhr University Bochum

Dr. Jantke de Boer (Chair of Economics, esp. International Monetary Economics) has been appointed as Assistant Professor of International Monetary Macroeconomics (with tenure track) at Ruhr University Bochum. She has left the Faculty at the end of April, 2024.

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schipp elected to the Academic Advisory Board of the Franco-German University (DFH)

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schipp has been elected to the Academic Advisory Board of the Franco-German University (DFH) for the period from March 1 to December 31, 2024. The Franco-German University (DFH) is an institution founded in 1997 by Germany and France under international law whose task is to initiate, evaluate and financially support Franco-German study programs.

Business and Economics goes Robotics

Robotics and AI on the one hand, financial advice and bank branch management on the other. The team led by Professor Lars Hornuf from the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology has been investigating how AI and financial advice interact for some time and is now receiving support from a robot.

IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) and TUD I excite focus on assistive technologies (AT)

In March, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, TUDIexcite Director, discussed with Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, President of the IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP), in Chennai, India, the first steps towards working together to become a global leader in the field of assistive technologies (AT).

New accelerator starts in Dresden

Together with TUDAG and the Leipzig SpinLab, TUD|excite is launching a DeepTech accelerator in Dresden with the successfully acquired funding from the SMWA. According to the latest Financial Times ranking, SpinLab is one of the best accelerator programmes in Germany (2nd place) and Europe (12th place). The application phase begins in April and the first class of promising DeepTech start-up projects will start in the summer. More information will be available at the TUDIexcite website soon.

EXIST Women: Emily Hickmann receives funding for women in the start-up scene

Since December 2023, selected women at TU Dresden with an interest in start-ups have been supported by the EXIST Women program. Among them is Emily Hickmann, research associate in the Digital Health research group, who is part of this pioneering program as co-founder of ActiveTEP. The health application ActiveTEP accompanies and supports patients 12 weeks before and 12 weeks after an operation to insert an artificial hip joint using a variety of individualized and evidence-based knowledge modules as well as a training program that helps to develop the right behaviors.

Congratulations to the Distinguished Research Fellows 2024!

In February, an external selection committee decided who the Distinguished Research Fellows 2024 are: Elizabeth Embry (University of Kansas School of Business), Oliver Krancher (IT University Copenhagen), Bismark Singh (University of Southampton) und Dimitrios Xefteris (University of Cyprus) will spent their first research stays at the faculty in the summer semester.

Professor Hilbert Publication Prize: Award Ceremony

The Professor Hilbert Publication Prize, which is being awarded for the second time this year, is intended to recognize doctoral candidates, postdocs and junior professors who have succeeded in publishing outstanding journal publications in 2023. The award winners are Rita Maghularia, Fabian Hildebrandt and Tristan Becker. The award ceremony will take place on April 24, 2024 in the faculty's Festsaal.

Georg-Helm Prize awarded to Lisa Lorenz

Lisa Lorenz, research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics, has been awarded the Georg Helm Prize 2023 for her master's thesis "A model-based impact analysis of hybrid interconnector parameters on the quantity of cross-border countertrade measures, unintended exchange, and capacity provision for balancing power".

Deutsche Bundesbank and the Faculty of Business and Economics invite applications for the Deutsche Bundesbank Award for outstanding theses in Business and Economics. Outstanding master's and diploma theses as well as doctoral dissertations with a close connection to the statutory tasks of the Deutsche Bundesbank, in particular monetary policy, financial stability, banking supervision as well as cash operations and cashless payments, are eligible for funding.

Digital Master's Day on April 18, 2024

The digital Master's Day on April 18 gives all interested parties the opportunity to get to know the Master's degree programs at TU Dresden in live presentations and Q&A sessions. From 10 a.m., professors, academic advisors and students from the faculty will be presenting our Master's degree programs (Business Administration, Public and International Economics, Business Education and Management Training).

UNI Day on June 1, 2024

The UNI Day is aimed at all prospective students and focuses on the undergraduate degree programs offered at TU Dresden. The faculty provides information with lectures and at information stands on the Bachelor's degree courses in Business Administration and Economics and Business Education and Management Training and the Diploma degree courses in Industrial Engineering and Management as well as Business Information Systems.

The research colloquium will once again offer a series of exciting research lectures in the summer term. The program will be complemented by Distinguished Research Fellow Award ceremonies and a 60-minute online discussion on the topic of hydrogen.

Panel discussion on scientific freedom, human rights and political realities on April 15, 2024

The future Dresden Fellow and Philipp Schwartz Fellow Dr. Gubad Ibadoghlu has been imprisoned in Azerbaijan since July 24, 2023 for alleged possession of counterfeit money. TU Dresden is supporting his family, colleagues and representatives of international human rights organizations in a concerted campaign to secure his release.  A panel discussion on April 15, 2024 will address the lessons learned from this and similar cases.

"Generative AI in Finance": Paper Development Workshop with Michael Weber (Chicago Booth School of Business) on July 5, 2024

The Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology is organizing a Paper Development Workshop on Generative AI in Finance on July 5, 2024 at the faculty. The keynote will be held by Michael Weber (Chicago Booth School of Business), who will talk about "The Promises and Pitfalls of Large Language Models in Finance". The workshop is linked to a special issue in the Journal of Banking and Finance on Generative AI in Finance.

CGDE Workshop Review

On February 29 and March 1, 2024, doctoral candidates, postdocs and professors of the Central-German Doctoral Program Economics (CGDE) met at the faculty for the network's 11th annual doctoral workshop. 

The Central-German Doctoral Program Economics is a supra-regional network of the economics faculties in Dresden, Halle, Jena and Magdeburg as well as ifo Dresden and IWH Halle. The central aim of the CGDE is to provide excellent doctoral training by offering research-oriented courses led by internationally renowned researchers.
