The TUD sees itself as a regionally anchored and globally oriented university of excellence, which - as the largest employer in Dresden - assumes social responsibility. „Science is part of society and therefore cannot be apolitical. As a state university, we are obliged to maintain party-political neutrality, but being neutral does not mean to remain silent when fundamental values such as civil liberties, human dignity and the rule of law are at risk,“ says Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger.
After the TUD has clearly positioned itself on several occasions - among others via activities as part of the current Year of Science with the project "Democratic Freedom - Achieve, Experience, Preserve" - our university is now taking further steps: „We have forged an alliance with the DRESDEN-concept association and Dresden's cultural institutions. This includes all universities and research institutions in Dresden, the major museums, the Philharmonie, the Staatsschauspiel and the members of 'Weltoffenes Dresden'“. The alliance, which is unique in Germany in this form, is calling for a major event on May 25 entitled „Joining forces for democracy - Dresden science and culture calls for action“.
