Digitalization for a more sustainable agriculture of the future: Successful conclusion of the LANDNETZ joint project

Over the past five years, the joint project LANDNETZ, funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), has conducted intensive research into comprehensive communication and cloud networks for the agriculture of the future. A digital experimental field was set up in a selected model region of Saxony. Scientists from TUD, Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems IVI and employees of the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) tested various technologies for nationwide wireless data transmission using 5G in rural areas. At the end of the project, the current status of developments was presented at the regional conference "Digital applications for agricultural practice" on June 13.

Major success for TUD in the latest “THE Impact Ranking”

In the renowned Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2024, TUD has made it into the top group in the sustainability category "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure". TUD has once again improved on its already excellent results from 2023 and achieved full points in this Sustainable Development Goal in the current ranking round. This makes it one of the top five universities in this category at national level. From June 10 to 13, TUD presented itself with a stand at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSD) in Bangkok, where the ranking results were announced. Representatives from the University Executive Board, the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Engineering Sciences were on site as contact persons. In addition to research projects from both areas, TUD's sustainability efforts in terms of teaching, research and transfer were also presented.

Promoting gender equality in the School of Engineering Sciences: Python workshop publishes conference proceedings

The event "Python for Female Engineers" has already taken place twice as a successful remote format in the School of Engineering Sciences. As an interdisciplinary project, it was organized by Dr. Sabine Apelt (Mechanical Engineering), Dr. Carsten Knoll (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) and Antje Kazimiers (Computer Science) and carried out together with Dorothea Piko Koch from Hamburg. The School of Engineering Sciences provided financial support from the equal opportunities budget, which, in addition to the expected impact of increasing the number of Research Associates, also resulted in a publication. The SPRING 2022 conference proceedings contain the exercises of the beginner and advanced sections and a field report on the organization and implementation for potential imitators as well as the contributions of the symposium. We would like to thank all contributors for their commitment!

TUD Impuls ideas platform launched

TUD's new participation format, the digital ideas platform TUD Impuls, has been up and running since the beginning of June. Here, employees and students can submit suggestions for improvement in order to initiate positive changes at TUD with their solutions. We are looking for concrete and economically viable solutions to the challenges facing the university. Anyone can submit ideas anonymously and vote transparently on the platform to decide which ideas should be pursued. In addition, everyone can participate in the discussion about the ideas and support the further development of ideas with individual (specialist) knowledge. Take the opportunity to help shape the TUD and register on the ideas platform. You can register using your ZIH access data.
