International “excite” Summer School in Lusatia

From August 25 to 31, the TUD|Excellence Center for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (TUD|excite) will be holding its first summer school for PhD students and postdocs on the topic of “Patents in Search of New Business”. Focusing especially on the Lusatian region dedicated to future growth and knowledge transfer, the summer school’s versatile program features experienced experts, coaches and mentors from the worlds of business, science and startups. It offers a chance to look into the concrete opportunities that patents and this “region of the future” offer. Sign up by June 30 at the latest.

TUD Impuls Ideas Platform Launched

TU Dresden is ushering in a new era of co-creation in the form of the digital ideas platform TUD Impuls. Staff and students are now able to submit suggestions for improvement, providing solutions that can bring about positive changes at TUD. Suggestions are needed for concrete, economically workable solutions to the challenges the university faces. After six weeks of discussion, the ideas the community rates especially highly will be evaluated by experts and presented to the Extended University Executive Board. If accepted, they will then be put into practice.

Doctoral and Postdoc Councils | Vote Now!

From June 10 to 12, the Doctoral Council (representing all doctoral students at TU Dresden) and the Postdoc Council (representing the postdoc centers at TUD and HZDR) will once again be elected for one year in office. DO IT NOW | Sustainability Week

The “DO IT NOW” action week from July 15 to 21 will present the wide range of sustainability-related activities and stakeholders found both at the university and urban society. There will be plenty of hands-on activities and networking opportunities: connect with experts from the fields of science and culture at the “Sustainable Coffee Hour” on June 17, or talk to stakeholders in education, nutrition and sustainability at TUD and Dresden city council at the free “Sustainability Breakfast” on June 20, where you can pick up tips about education and chat about the future. Lectures, workshops and research project presentations round off the program.

2024 FOSTER Scholarships | Excellent Opportunities for Student Research

Online applications have opened for the Fund for Student Research (FOSTER)! Students and teaching staff can apply now to receive financial support for their research and teaching/learning projects. Funding is available for projects with a volume of EUR 5,000 to 25,000 and starting in January 2025 or later. Applications can be submitted until August 30. There will also be an information event on June 24.

In her latest episode, she talks to Ann-Marie Rajda, who works at the university archives. The two explore the question of how source interpretation is related to racist discrimination, and the role that accessibility has in archive-keeping.

2025 Incentive Fund | A Diverse Range of Opportunities to Unlock Every Potential!

As an inclusive higher education institute, TU Dresden naturally recognizes and promotes diversity. In 2025, the Equality and Diversity Incentive Fund will once again support new and continuing projects and measures that promote diversity at TUD and that can be implemented within the next year. EUR 50,000 from the Excellence Strategy will be set aside to fund this. Proposals may be submitted until September 13.

Method Milestone for Quantum Physics: Rapid Test for Topological 2D Materials

Topological quantum materials are hailed as a cornerstone of future technological advancements. Yet, validating their exceptional qualities has always been a lengthy business. However, researchers at the Cluster of Excellence Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter (ct.qmat) have now developed an experimental technique that systematically identifies two-dimensional topological materials through a rapid test. This breakthrough could help accelerate the progress of this booming class of materials. Their findings have been featured as the lead article in the journal Physical Review Letters.

SARS-CoV-2 and Type 1 Diabetes in Children: New Study Aims to Explore the Relationship

The Bonifacio group at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD) collaborates within the Global Platform for the Prevention of Autoimmune Diabetes (GPPAD) network to develop new methods to prevent type 1 diabetes. The new AVAnT1A study will investigate whether vaccinating against SARS-CoV-2 in the first year of life can protect children with an increased genetic risk of type 1 diabetes from developing the condition.
