TUD calls for voter participation

The 8th Saxon State Parliament will be elected on September 1, 2024 – this is an invaluable opportunity to exercise our democratic right to vote and influence the future of our federal state.
With our strong TUD community, we have the opportunity to play an active role in shaping our society. Together with the Landesrektorenkonferenz (LRK) and all Saxon universities we urge you to exercise your rights and cast your vote. Every vote counts! Let's advocate for a strong democracy and show that our country's future is important to us. Together, we can take a decisive stance for a cosmopolitan, tolerant and democratic society by ensuring the highest possible voter turnout. TUD has provided an image that you can include in your email signature. The image is available in a static and an animated version, both are available for download including instructions from the link below.

Molecular sponge for the electronics of the future

An international research team led by Dr Florian Auras from Dresden University of Technology (TUD) has succeeded in developing a new type of material in the rather young research field of covalent organic frameworks. The new two-dimensional polymer is characterised by the fact that its properties can be controlled in a targeted and reversible manner. This has brought the researchers a step closer to the goal of realising switchable quantum states. These results were recently published in the renowned journal 'Nature Chemistry'.

A closer look at cell toxins

When radionuclides enter our organism, whether by inhalation, ingestion, or through wounds, they pose a potential health risk. Many previous studies on radionuclide exposure have focused mainly on animal experiments. However, we have little data on toxicity at the cellular and molecular level. Kidney cells are of particular interest because in mammals they play a central role in the detoxification of bivalent, trivalent, and hexavalent radionuclides as well as other heavy metals via urinary excretion. A team from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and TUD – Dresden University of Technology has now found a differentiated picture, as the researchers report in the journal Science of the Total Environment.

Information and Innovation Day India

On 4 July 2024, the Head of the DAAD India Office, Dr. Katja Lasch, was invited by Prof. Weigand (Chair of the Internationalization Committee) to the Information and Innovation Day India of the School of Science.
The event provided a comprehensive overview of the Indian science and innovation ecosystem. Important support and funding instruments were also presented. In addition to Dr. Lasch, Aadishree Jamkhedkar (DWIH India) and Lina Bräu (International Office TUD) contributed to the success of the event with their presentations. Dr. Preeti Bhauriyal (Maria Reiche Fellow at the Faculty of Chemistry) also enriched the format with a personal experience report on successful Indian-German research cooperation. Afterwards, the approximately 30 participants had the opportunity to network and ask individual questions in a discussion round.

Wrocław: TU Dresden celebrates 25th anniversary of German-Polish collaboration

This year's summer party at the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Wrocław brought together around 700 Polish and German guests from the worlds of politics, business, culture and science. As co-organizer, the Free State of Saxony looked back on 25 years of German-Polish cooperation in the Lower Silesia region. In addition to greetings from Consul General Kremer, Marshal Gancarz, Voivode Awiżeń and City President Sutryk, Saxony's Prime Minister Kretschmer emphasized the joint success story of the partnership between Saxony and Lower Silesia. In addition to the CASUS research projects in the field of digital systems science, TU Dresden has carried out over 30 research projects in Lower Silesia since the start of the current excellence period in 2019. These covered a range of topics such as health, social and structural change, mobility, circular economy, sustainability, landscape management, information technology, microelectronics and materials science.

Creed for Complexity | #Introducing Dirk Brockmann

How do we understand complexity? The dynamics of pandemics, for example, show us that biology, social processes, collective behavior and social cooperation are closely linked. Prof. Dirk Brockmann has been the founding director of the Center Synergy of Systems since 2023 and holds the Chair of Biology of Complex Systems at TU Dresden. Prof. Brockmann's research focuses, among other things, on how antidisciplinary perspectives and the integration of social and natural sciences can help us understand complex phenomena.
