Using geothermal energy for the climate-neutral production of vegetables

Over the next two years, researchers at TUD will be testing a technology concept they have developed together with their practice partner, Doppelacker GmbH. This technology harnesses heat and cold from the ground of agricultural land in order to supply energy. An investor from the Oderbruch region who wishes to convert his horticultural business from gas to geothermal energy is making his land available, so that agrothermal energy can be tested on an industrial scale for the first time.

From gait analysis and jump diagnostics to AI as a heart specialist: Experience the future of biomedical technology

On November 15, the "Night of Biosignals" will take place simultaneously in various German cities from 6 p.m. to midnight. To mark the occasion, the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBMT) is opening its doors to the interested public. In six exciting presentations, scientists at IBMT will take the audience on a journey into the world of biosignals. They will provide insights into the complex signals of our body and their applications in medical research, diagnostics and therapy. Please register in advance.

Robot Symphony - 25 years of Dresden’s Symphony Orchestra: For this special anniversary, the baton was in the mechanical hands of a multi-armed, industrial robot

Dresden’s Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 25th anniversary with the Robot Symphony on October 12 and 13. The special feature of the concert at the Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden, which was largely sponsored by the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung, was that conductor Magnus Loddgard shared the conductor's podium with an industrial robot. In collaboration with the Cluster of Excellence CeTI, the robot learned how to keep a beat and how to display musical dynamics.

Andreas Bahr is the new holder of the Chair of Biomedical Electronics

Andreas Bahr has held the Chair of Biomedical Electronics at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering since September 1. In his research, the Cologne native focuses on smart wearables and intelligent implants for analyzing biosignals as well as medically integrated sensors and sensor systems for biomedical applications.

Cooperation event at the Rectorate of the TU Warsaw

On the Day of German Unity, a cooperation event was held at the Rectorate of the Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) to further expand the 30-year scientific partnership between the TU Warsaw and TUD. In the presence of the Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, and the Voivode of Mazovia, Mariusz Frankowski, Prof. Mariusz Malinowski, Vice-Rector Research at TU Warsaw, and Prof. Michael Kobel, Vice-Rector Academic Affairs at TU Dresden, signed the new editions of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Cotutelle Framework Agreement between the two universities. The long-standing partnership between TUD and TU Warsaw promotes international exchange through joint projects in teaching, research and science communication.

Auditorium Mobile Classroom Service AMCS established in the School of Engineering Sciences

The Auditorium Mobile Classroom Service AMCS is our university's audience response system, which is used in many courses in all School of Engineering Sciences faculties and beyond. AMCS makes it possible to support courses with learning tasks, surveys, messages and instant feedback. The following modifications have been implemented recently: addition of new Q&A functionality, OPAL introductory course for lecturers and improvement of rights management for assistants and tutors.

Rolls-Royce Innovation Award

This year's Rolls-Royce Innovation Award was presented to a pioneering technology that can significantly advance engine development through innovative lightweight construction solutions. The technology is a result of the project "Digital Synchronized Development Architecture for the Product Engineering Process - PEP4.0", in which the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK), together with Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd & Co KG and CTC GmbH, researched new methods for improving the design processes of complex lightweight structures using the example of a next-generation engine housing.

AHMT Measurement Technology Prize 2024

Dr. Stefan Rothe, former employee of the Chair of Measurement and Sensor Systems Technology, was awarded the AHMT Measurement Technology Prize 2024 for his dissertation on "The secrets of secure data transmission through optical fibres: Encrypting sensitive messages using light scattering". The Arbeitskreis der Hochschullehrer für Messtechnik e. V. (AHMT) awards the Measurement Technology Prize annually to young scientists for work that makes a significant contribution to the further development of measurement technology.

TUD student Justin Bürger receives Young Talent Award

This year's German Datacenter Conference honored outstanding scientific work in the IT and data center sector. TUD student Justin Bürger received the Young Talent Award for his research work on "Modeling and Analysis of Somitogenesis - Towards Reproducibility of Research Data using a Model Repository". In it, he deals with the reproducibility of research data using a model repository.

Calls and Funding Opportunities

Academy Prize of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities: It is awarded for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of humanities and social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences, biosciences and medicine as well as technical sciences and is endowed with 50,000 euros. The academy prize is intended to honor scientists whose research achievements open up new horizons, i.e. mark the moment when new and promising paths are taken. Suitable proposals can be submitted by e-mail to Dr. Karin Elisabeth Becker, Head of the President's Office of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, by January 15, 2025 at the latest.
Hector Research Career Development Award: The Hector Research Career Development (RCD) Award was created to promote the scientific careers of outstanding researchers in the School of Engineering Sciences, School of Medicine and School of Psychology on their way to a Chair. This award is aimed in a targeted manner at W1 professors and Junior Research Group Leaders. Submission deadline: October 30, 2024.

Study process engineering: Between reactor construction and laboratory analysis | alpha Uni

Matti Lehmann is studying Process Engineering and Natural Materials Technology in his 8th semester. His goal after graduation: to develop and design sustainable production processes. ARD alpha Uni accompanied Matti in his everyday life as a student. In the video, he provides insights into his laboratory internship, the informal atmosphere during lectures and tutorials and the construction of a bioreactor for a seminar paper.

Beerology – the scientific pub festival in Dresden
Live Science e.V. invites all interested parties to short popular science lectures in the pub of the Mondpalast-Hostel.
