TUDiSC 5th Conference: A great success for interdisciplinary exchange!

Beginning with a keynote from Dr. Enno Fischer, in which the notions of scientific boundaries were challenged through a mix of case studies from the allegedly clear-cut world of particle physics, to the often politically charged terrain of forensic medicine, the TUDiSC 5th conference enjoyed a well-attended kick off on September 24 at the Open Science Lab, Dresden.

A full day of exchange began on September 25 with lightning talks in which the presenters were able to pitch their understanding of, and relationship to, the conference theme of “Disrupting Scientific Boundaries”. Organized by TUDiSC PhD students, the conference was successfull at bringing together researchers from various disciplines to discuss their relations to art, activism and politics and to question validity and impact of research.

Throughout the day the room was buzzing with stimulating exchange on the multifacted perspectives of the various presentations and round-table discussions, summarized in the graphic recording by Franziska Schwarz (see above).

Charlotte Weitze: Rosarium | Book Launch Reading and Discussion

We are pleased to announce that in a cooperation between the Nordic Embassies Berlin and the TUDiSC project "Disrupt!Research", Solvejg Nitzke (Interim Professor of General and Comparative Literary Studies - Ruhr University Bochum) will moderate a discussion with the author Charlotte Weitze on her upcoming book Rosarium.

Concept:
What happens to our world when we follow the call to overcome the boundary between nature and culture? In which worlds and in which media can ecological coexistence succeed? Is the connection between plants and humans a reason to celebrate or does the strange kinship' undermine the integrity of both ways of life? Charlotte Weitze's novel “Rosarium” weaves these questions into a narrative that combines fairy tale and family novel, fantasy and realism, and treats them as ecological, political and social problems. The transformations at the heart of the text question identities and offer ways of knowing that are neither modern nor traditional, allowing us to discuss how we want to live with and as more-than-human beings.

When: November 21, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Villa Augustin/Erich Kästner Haus (Antonstraße 1, 01097 Dresden), free admission

The aim is to break with processes of perception and planning in order to create new approaches to uncertain, complex and conflict-laden topics.

A series of events will accompany the transforming exhibition, making it worthwhile to pay a flying visit or engage with the events on offer.
