Discussion Event on January 16, 2025: Addressing Shortcomings, Modernizing with Determination: The Annual Report of the German Council of Economic Experts

We are very pleased to welcome Monika Schnitzer for a discussion event at the faculty. Monika Schnitzer is the Chairwoman of the German Council of Economic Experts. In her presentation, she will discuss the annual report published in November 2024 and answer questions in the subsequent discussion.

Wirtschafts­Woche ranking 2024: Researchers from the faculty with very good results

In the current research ranking published by WirtschaftsWoche, four professors from the faculty achieved very good results. In the ranking of the most research-intensive Business Economists in German-speaking countries, Lars Hornuf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology) is ranked 62nd out of 100. Further, Thomas Günther (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Management Accounting and Control), Edeltraud Günther (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Sustainability Management und Environmental Accounting) and Martin Wiener (Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Business Engineering) are listed in the lifetime achievement ranking.

Clover Optimization has been awarded the Digital Innovation Founder’s Prize by BMWK

Clover Optimization, a spin-off from the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management, has been awarded the Digital Innovation Start-up Prize by the BMWK. Funded by the 75th EXIST start-up grant, Clover Optimization is developing a planning tool for integrated route and vehicle loading planning and follows the vision of making the logistics industry more efficient and sustainable through intelligent software solutions.

TU Dresden honors top graduates of the 2023/2024 academic year

The best TUD graduates of the 2023/2024 academic year has been awarded on December 6, 2024. Josefine Reinsch, who studied Industrial Engineering and Management received the Lohrmann Medal as the best graduate of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Katharina Goethner, Lea Raubuch, Lena Rieck, Maximilian Meiler, Lorenzo Taveccia and Tim Scheurer also received awards as the best in their respective study programs.

Dimitrita Freitas about her PhD project

Since 2021, Dimitria Freitas has been working as a research associate at the Chair of Economics, esp. Economic Policy and Economic Research. In a short interview she talks about her  dissertation which is about the factors that favour right-wing populism in Western democracies.

Group & Organization Management has appointed Stefan Razinskas (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Organization and Management) as member of its Editorial Review Board. Best Paper Award at 5th CEFGroup Sustainable Finance and Reporting Symposium

Prof. Dr. Lars Hornuf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology), togehther with his co-authors, has received the INFINZ Best Paper in Sustainable Investing Award at the 5th CEFGroup Sustainable Finance and Reporting Symposium. The paper titled “Nudging Investors towards Sustainability: A Field Experiment with a Robo-Advisor” investigates sustainability preferences of investors.

RecSys 2024 Best Paper Award for Felix Reinsch, Thure Weimann and Jeannette Stark

Which variables typically play a role in behavior change recommender systems? And which are best suited for personalized recommendations, such as healthy eating, mental health, or sleep? These and other questions are answered by a paper from the Research Group Digital Health which was presented at RecSys 2024 in Bari and honoured with the Best Paper Award.

DFG funded research project on the use of AI in financial advice

What is the potential of artificial intelligence in financial advice? What risks are associated with the use of large language models in financial advice? These and other questions are now being investigated by a new project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), titled "Artificial Intelligence in private pension provision: opportunities and risks". The project is a collaboration between Dresden University of Technology under the direction of Lars Hornuf and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt under the direction of Assistant Professor David Streich.

GO-flexi project launch

On October 1, 2024, the project "Gymnasiale Oberstufe flexibilisieren durch Stundenplanung (GO-flexi)", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), was officially launched. The joint project is being carried out in cooperation between TU Dresden (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Industrial Management and Chair of Education / Inclusive Education) and Bielefeld University.

STREEBIO project launch

The research project "Potentiale für Strommarkterlöse unter Einbeziehung von Emmissionshandel und EEG für Bioenergieanlagen (STREEBIO)" was launched on January 1, 2025 at the Chair of Business Administration, esp. Energy Economics. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and will run for three years. Project partner is the German Biomass Research Centre.

New EKFZ project: ARAS – Optimized Stroke Care in Eastern Saxony

The Research Group Digital Health is excited to launch the ARAS project (Allocation Algorithm for Optimized Regional Acute Stroke Care) which is funded for 12 months through the 2nd Call for EKFZ Interdisciplinary Innovation Projects in Health Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences and aims to develop a simulation-based tool to optimize patient allocation in acute stroke care.

Kick-Off of the New European Joint Action EUnetCCC

On October 1, 2024, the new European Joint Action EUnetCCC - European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centers - was officially launched. This initiative represents the largest European healthcare collaboration to date, with 163 partners from 31 countries joining forces over the next four years to advance the establishment and networking of Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCCs) across Europe. The Research Group Digital Health makes a vital contribution to this project by supporting the development of a maturity model that will serve as a tool for advancing and certifying Comprehensive Cancer Centers and Comprehensive Cancer Care Networks.

EUTOPIA Netzwerkstudio zu Urban Mobility in Brüssel

Tristan Becker, Junior Professor for Business Administration, esp. Management Science, was among the participants from TU Dresden at the International Network Studio on Urban Mobility on October 23-24, 2024 in Brussels. This event was organised by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in collaboration with TU Dresden and the University of Warwick and brought together over 20 researchers who are developing innovative solutions for the future of urban mobility.

EUTOPIA Connecting Communities

The Connected Communities serve to bring the main areas of academic life - learning, teaching and research - closer together. University partners from at least three universities in the EUTOPIA network can establish a cross-campus thematic network over a period of three years.

In the second call for proposals, a Connecting Community on Sustainable Well-being is being funded under the lead of Nova University Lisbon, in which Bärbel Fürstenau and Ianina Scheuch from the Chair of Business Education are also involved. The call for proposals for the third round is open until January 31, 2025.

The partnering network EUTOPIA organized an Innovation Challenge week in Slovenia hosted by University of Ljubljana from October 14-17, 2024.The week was full of workshops about the diffusion of innovation, company visits and networking activities in and around the city of Ljubljana. Successful Dresden Fellowship application by Dmitry Payson together with Lars Hornuf and Matin Tajmar

Dmitry Payson will join TU Dresden as a Fellow at the beginning of next year to advance joint research projects with Lars Hornuf (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Finance and Financial Technology) and Martin Tajmar (Chair of Space Systems).He will also contribute to interdisciplinary teaching on space and economics at TUD and participate in further research projects on the space industry.

Visit by Tristan Becker to the University of Southampton

Tristan Becker was a guest at the University of Southampton at the beginning of December at the invitation of Distinguished Research Fellow Prof Bismark Singh. Among other things, he presented his research on ‘Solving the Rotating Workforce Scheduling Problem: A Branch-And-Cut Approach Based on Eulerian Cycles’ as part of the CORMSIS seminar and gave a tutorial entitled ‘A Hitchhiker's Guide to Web Scraping in Python’.

Research stay of Emma Llyod at the HEC Liège, Belgien

Emma Lloyd, research associate and doctoral candidate at the Junior Professorship in Sustainability Accounting and Policy, spent two weeks as a guest researcher with Prof. Nathalie Crutzen at the HEC Lüttich for two weeks. In collaboration with Jun.-Prof. Samanthi Dijkstra-Silva and Katherine Christ (UniSA, Australia) they are working on a research paper that links sustainability in supply chains with digital technologies.

Participation of Leyla Azizi in the science communication project of the Joachim Herz Foundation

As part of a science communication project, Leyla Azizi (Chair of Business Administration, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting) had the opportunity to work on an exciting project together with Elena Kirillidis and Christian Düring from the Cologne School of Journalism. The result of the project was a video on her research project "Biodiversity and the financial sector", in which she had to explain her current research in three minutes.

60 seconds on ... is the title of a new video series in which early career researchers provide insights into their research and current projects. In the first three videos, Isabell Lippert (Chair of Business Information Systems, esp. Business Engineering), Sarah Müller-Sägebrecht (Chair of  Entrepreneurship and Innovation) and Valentin Lindlacher (Junior Professorship in Economics, esp. International Economic Policy) talk about algorithmic management, digital infrastructure in developing countries and the integration of generative AI into business models.

Recognizing AI content through intuition: "Kurze Frage" with Dr . Katharina Fellnhofer & Professor Lars Hornuf

In a joint study, Katharina Fellnhofer and Lars Hornuf investigated how well people are able to recognise AI-generated content with the help of their intuition. In a new edition of the TUD video format "Kurze Frage" they speak about the research questions, the methodological approach and the results of the study.

On January 30, 2025 between 09:30-11:30 a.m., students of the faculty will have the opportunity to obtain detailed information about the specializations in the elective area. All our specializations in Business Administration, Economics, Business Information Systems, and Business Education will present themselves on that occasion. There will be posters for an introductory overview, but more importantly, many professors and staff will be around to detail the specializations' contents, requirements, and career prospects.

Start-up service dresden|exists celebrated its 25th anniversary

A quarter of a century full of innovation and start-up spirit: Since 1999, the Startup Service dresden|exists has been supporting those interested in founding a company from Dresden's universities and research institutions. Launched as a third-party funded project at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation under the direction of Michael Schefczyk, the start-up service now supports people interested in founding a company from eight scientific institutions in Dresden and Eastern Saxony. dresden|exists celebrated the 25th anniversary of the network with an anniversary event on 11 December 2024.

Welcome workshop for new doctoral candidates on December 10, 2024

From (former) doctoral candidates for new doctoral candidates is the motto of our introductory workshop, which takes place once a semester. On December 10, 2024, Jeannette Stark (Research Group Digital Health), Isabell Lippert (Chair of Information Systems, esp. Business Engineering) and Uta Schwarz (Dean's Office) led the workshop, which, in addition to getting to know each other, primarily serves to present and discuss the most important milestones, contact persons and funding opportunities on the path to a successful doctorate.
